Drag Chain Conveyor ,En-Masse Scraper Conveyor
The FU Series Drag Chain Conveyor is a specialized variant of the en-masse scraper conveyor. Utilizing a steel roller chain as its traction mechanism, it is also commonly referred to as a chain conveyor or chain link conveyor. It is engineered specifically for the horizontal or shallow-inclined transport of powders, granules, and small bulk materials.
Working Principle
The core mechanism of the FU series conveyor relies on the internal friction of the bulk material itself to drive the mass forward. As the conveyor chain moves through the enclosed casing, the chain and its attachments drag the material along. Because the internal friction among the material particles exceeds the internal friction between the material and the casing walls, the bulk solid forms a continuous, cohesive column that flows steadily forward.
Applications
This equipment is primarily designed to convey non-sticky, free-flowing, mild, and non-abrasive powders or small particulates. It is widely utilized for transporting materials such as cement, fly ash, mineral powder, limestone powder, urea, calcium carbonate, wheat, flour, grain, animal feed, pulverized coal, and coke breeze. Consequently, it finds extensive application across industries including building materials, chemicals, power generation, grain processing, mining, metallurgy, and port terminals.
Features
1. High Conveying Capacity
The maximum throughput can reach 600–700 m³/h, allowing large volumes of material to be handled within a compact cross-sectional area.
2. Low Energy Consumption
By leveraging the internal friction of the material itself for en-masse transport, friction between the conveyor chain and the casing is minimized. This reduces running resistance and achieves a 40%–60% energy saving compared to conventional screw conveyors.
3. Superior Sealing Performance
The fully enclosed dust-tight casing effectively prevents dust leakage, significantly improving workplace safety and environmental conditions while meeting strict eco-friendly regulations.
4. Extended Service Life
The conveyor chain is manufactured from high-strength, wear-resistant alloy steel and undergoes advanced heat treatment. It features exceptional durability, with a normal chain service life exceeding 3 years and a roller life of 2–3 years.
5. Flexible Process Layout
The design supports multiple inlets and outlets. The unit can be flexibly configured for elevated, ground-level, or pit installation based on site requirements.
6. Smooth and Reliable Operation
The utilization of a steel roller chain converts sliding friction into rolling friction, ensuring low noise levels, minimal wear, and low-maintenance operation.

Selection and Operational Guides: Preventing Blockage and Overloading, Minimizing Wear, and Maximizing Service Life
1. Prioritize Chain Speed, Then Select the Model
For highly abrasive, high-temperature, or large-particle materials, a lower chain speed must be selected to minimize wear and tear. Once the optimal chain speed is determined, choose the appropriate conveyor model based on the required throughput.
2. Avoid Underloading / "Over-Sizing"
The actual operating throughput should not fall below 65% of the conveyor's rated capacity. Underloading results in an excessively thin material bed, causing the conveyor chain to run bare against the casing, which ironically accelerates equipment wear.
3. Reserve a Capacity Buffer
The rated capacity of the selected conveyor should be 10% to 20% higher than the maximum calculated process requirement. This buffer ensures the system can seamlessly handle material surges and uneven feeding from upstream equipment.
